What is Wilma like?

Wilma is the happiest, sweetest girl with an enormous heart and so much love to give. She is affectionate, clever, gentle and completely devoted to people, a true “person’s dog” who simply hasn’t found her person yet.

She came into kennels as a stray without a microchip, so we know very little about her life before now. We believe she may have been chained at some point and, understandably, she was initially timid and overwhelmed by kennel life.

But as Wilma began to feel safe, her wonderful personality appeared.

Today, she greets the people she trusts with kisses, cuddles and a full-body excitement that is impossible not to love. Her love language is absolutely physical affection and she will happily bounce up to request a cuddle. There is no malice in her whatsoever - she is simply delighted to be near you and to get a fuss.

Wilma walks beautifully on the lead. Once her initial excitement has passed, she settles into a calm, happy plod alongside you, regularly checking in to make sure you're having as much fun with her as she is with you (and whether you have any more snacks).

She takes treats gently, loves learning and is incredibly receptive to training. She is a smart little dog with so much potential and we think she will flourish with someone who enjoys continuing her training through patience, kindness and positive reinforcement.

On her outings, Wilma has been far more interested in meeting people and receiving fuss than exploring independently. Even in an open field, she choses to stay close to us. She doesn’t just enjoy human company, it is where she feels happiest.

The only slightly cheeky habit of note is that she bounces up when she is excited and wants a cuddle. With continued training and consistency, we are confident this clever girl will learn that cuddles can also happen with all four paws on the floor!

Wilma’s ideal home

Wilma could live as the only dog and would be more than happy to have her people all to herself.

She may also be able to live with another suitable dog, subject to successful introductions and meets. She has been good around other dogs while in our care, but any match must be right for everyone involved.

Wilma could live with older, dog-savvy children. She met a young boy while out with us and thoroughly enjoyed the attention, but because we do not have a full history of her living with children, and because she can be bouncy when excited, an older, understanding household would be the most appropriate match.

She has not been cat tested, so we cannot currently say that she could live with cats.

Most importantly, Wilma needs a loving family who will allow her to settle, continue her training and give her the closeness and companionship she craves. In return, they will gain an affectionate, loyal and joyful little best friend.

Could you be Wilma’s person?

Wilma has already spent months waiting in kennels. She is safe, cared for and deeply loved, but she deserves more than visits and borrowed mornings. She deserves a home, a family and the comfort of knowing that she belongs.

If you adopt Wilma, we can promise that you will never know a day without love again, because this wonderful girl will give you all of hers.

All potential adopters will complete our application and home-check process. An adoption donation will apply and full rescue backup will be provided.

Please apply if you believe you could offer Wilma the loving, secure forever home she has been waiting for. If you cannot adopt, please share her profile. Wilma’s person may already be out there — they just need to see her. 🧡
